Winston's Whiskers
A charity focused on supporting and fostering kittens and other animals in need by supporting our local shelters in Stafford, virginia
Our Story
Dr. Laura Chretien began fostering kittens early in her career when she was a veterinary assistant and has been doing it ever since. Winston was a kitten that nearly died from flea anemia. A good samaritan brought him to Dr. Laura and it was love at first sight! He was Dr. Laura's first foster fail and she still has him. He helped inspire Dr. Laura to start Winston's Whiskers and promote our mission - to save the lives of kittens in need, with your help!
our services
Fostering
We foster pets that are too young to be adopted out by our local shelters, or that need a little more socialization before they are ready to go to their forever home.
Medical Fostering
We provide veterinary care for fosters that are sick or just need some extra support. We can provide fluid support, prescription diets, flea medication, antibiotics, or whatever else the foster may need. We also take in bottle babies.
DIRECT SUPPORT TO SHELTERS
We offer direct support to our local shelters in the form of products they may need for other animals in their care, such as prescription diets, or flea and tick medication that must be prescribed by a veterinarian. We also provide reduced cost (or no charge, depending on donations) medical exams and procedures for in need shelter pets.
How Can you help our mission?
We are a registered 501c3 charity and we are always in need of donations to help purchase supplies. We use these supplies both for fosters we take care of at Winston's Whiskers, and as direct donations to the animals still at the local shelters. Flea medications and medical procedures are common ways that we help local shelters. All donations to Winston's Whiskers are tax deductible.
Our permanent staff of kitten socialzers (aka Dr. laura's cats)
Winston
Our namesake - Winston! He came to Dr. Laura as a 4 week old baby. His sister passed away from flea anemia the day prior, but Dr. Laura was able to save Winston with lots of TLC! He loves playing with foster kittens and teaching them to be good kitty citizens.
Oliver
Oliver was a foster that Dr. Laura brought on to be a friend for Winston, and the two of them bonded instantly! When Dr. Laura couldn't let Winston go, she knew she had to keep his 'brother' Oliver, as well. He is a great kitty and loves to make biscuits.
Leeloo
Leeloo was Dr. Laura's first kitten and the only one of the bunch that we actually went out looking to adopt! Her mom was hit by a car and she was being bottle raised by one of Dr. Laura's coworkers. Dr. Laura did not have any cats at the time, and was looking to adopt. Leeloo was a perfect fit! She is a bit of a diva and not much help with the kittens, although she will share space with them if they need to be kept in our bedroom for care around the clock.
Cake
Cake was found by a good samaritan in a ditch on Dr. Laura's birthday. He was nearly dead and his heart was stopping when he was brought to the clinic. Dr. Laura and the clinic staff were able to bring him back and found that he was extra spicy! He has since become much more tame and Dr. Laura's husband fell in love with him, so Dr. Laura decided to keep him and he officially became Dr. Laura's birthday 'cake' that year!
Motor
Motor was brough in by a good samaritan after being caught in a fanbelt while hiding in a motor. Not a safe place for a kitten! His arm was broken and he was a bit roughed up. Dr. Laura paid to have his arm repaired by a veterinary surgeon (she doesn't do orthopedic work and he was too feral for a splint) and he is in perfect shape now. He is still a little stand offish with humans, but loves socializing with foster kittens!
Willie
Willie is Dr. Laura's newest addition. He isn't too experienced with kittens, but has enjoyed learning to be a good kitty mentor. He is our biggest and newest kitty, and is enjoying his senior retirement home.
